Welcome 2020!

Something about a new year. Makes you want to re-do. Re-do it all. You look around and see a tired house, a tired job, tired clothes and a tired you. You are just tired of it all. That glowing New Year feeling doesn’t stand a chance and may seem almost impossible with all this “tired” going on.

We all want to know “how” to make our new year new. True grit, powering through, imposed will, sheer determination, I’ve tried them all too, with varying success. Then I found a kinda secret, a secret that has made a difference in my quest for my new lifestyle. Yes, a secret!

I know!

The secret is… I decided to “as if” and then “I am”. That’s it! I just “as if” and “I am”.

I wrote down all the things I wanted in my new lifestyle. I included things I wanted to do, have, be, go. Then I looked around and started living “as if” it were true, which made it true! So simple, I know!

To start, you act like what ever you want is already a thing. Then you do what needs to happen to build on it.

For example, I really wanted to redecorate my dining room. I wanted a slightly upscale room that had a European flare. So, as if that were already true, I looked around my house to find things that matched my vision. I moved some pictures, found some items that matched and arranged my new vision in my dining room. Now , every time I go through (which is often as it is the main room on my first floor- more on that in a later post!) I see my vision!

Want to be thinner, healthier, happier… start doing things “as if” you already are. Eat like a thin person- as if you are already that person, make healthy choices because, you are that healthy person already. See how this works?

And, it really does work.

Often times we think we are not what we want to be until things are perfect. I taught Irish dance and ran the adult beginner class. When new adults joined our class, they would say they wanted to be an Irish Dancer. At the end of the first class I would tell them ” Now you are an Irish Dancer.” They would look at me and shake their heads no. It takes years to become a dancer. “Of course you are a dancer, all you needed to do was take the first dance step. By taking your first step, you became the dancer you wanted to be.”  I would always tell them…and it is true.

It helps to find inspiration and belief. Look for it everywhere.
