Going Forth

Adventure, thrills, mysterious places, all of this calls to me…yet…I don’t answer. My daily round of work and home-care, pets and family keep me from wild adventure.

As an educator, my work is done during the school year. Why yes, I have several built in vacations, more than most other work. Yet, I find that I do not leave for adventure during the school year. You too? Ah…well, I understand.

My husband, Bobby, is retired and is at the ready to go. He wants to be out and about. But not alone, with me, us.

Do we need to put our yearning to adventure forth on hold? Perhaps the big adventures do. So, let us just Go Forth and find enjoyment near. Far will have to wait.

There was a time when I looked for big things to do-concerts (still love a good concert), plays, the ballet, shows. Big events do not always fit in. Time, money, maybe one of us does not appreciate ballet (WHAT???) – all challenge going forth. Yet, we still want to do things. Perhaps one of us more than the other…

We like short, purposeful adventures, close to home and one of us needs to be really partial to it. Short is key, especially for those who do not really appreciate the purpose (so, the ballet is out). Keeping it short, allows for participation for non-believers.

Ideas:

  • What do both of you like? We like nature and specifically, looking for big birds like eagles, swans and hawks. We seek adventures where we can spy these birds, like on the ice along the Mississippi at a snowy park.
  • Close enough to drive is crucial. We think close is about an hour. Enjoy the ride with fancy coffee, good music, maybe a snack.
  • Weather related options, like patios, picnics (especially breakfast picnics!), snowy and frozen things (love this- after all we are in the Bold North of Minnesota!), chasing fall colors!
  • local attractions- flower shows, tall ships, special museum exhibits, dog shows, rodeos, cultural festivals, parades.

Now for Us means to find how you like to spend time together. Sometimes, it is just staying at home. We call that HomeBodying.

What do we do whilst Homebodying? In warm weather- we sit on the deck and sip Patio Drinks. In the blistery winter, we snuggle up in our cozy basement lounge- we call it the Cabin- sip wine or tea, watch football and cuddle our cats and of course, each other!!
